Turkish Style Potato Salad /Patates Salatası

Potato SaladLike for many other countries, potato is very common in Turkey. Potatoes are definitely a low profile vegetable that is welcome in every season. Potato Salad is one of the favourites during summer. Here is my version of this charming salad. I hope you enjoy it.

Normally for other potato dishes, I would not peel before boiling. However for this salad I suggest peeling to make sure that every piece is cooked evenly. Make sure to cut to similar cube shaped pieces for the same reason.

Cubed PotatoUse a large pot, add all the potatoes and cover with water and a generous tea spoon of salt. Cook for about 15-20 minutes until edible, but not mashed. You will be mixing the potatoes with the dressing mixture, so if you overcook there is risk that the potatoes become a pure. On the other hand if you undercook they will be tasteless. I generally prefer to undercook other vegetables, but it just doesn’t work for potatoes.

Instructions
  1. Wash, peel and cut the potatoes to similar, bite-size small cubes.
  2. Put them in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a generous tea spoon of salt. Cook until edible, definitely not mashed. This should take around 15-20 minutes. Test with a tooth pick, if it can enter into the potato smoothly it means the potatoes are ready.
  3. While the potatoes are boiling prepare the dressing mixture in a large serving bowl. Mix well all the dressing ingredients and mix well.
  4. As soon as the potatoes are ready take them out gently using a slotted spoon and put them directly into the serving bowl with the dressing mixture. Mix gently and well so while the potatoes are still warm.
  5. Serve luke warm or cold. Enjoy.
