Two Colored Heart Cookies / İki Renkli Kalp Kurabiyeler

I’ve prepared this recipe with heart shapes for Valentine’s Day. Any shape or combination can be used. You can replace cacao with food coloring too. Everything is up to you and your imagination.

I am sure young ones will also enjoy helping you.

If you are having a difficulty in rolling out the doughs there are things you can do:

  • If the dough is sticking to your working space, your hands or your rolling pin, you can sprinkle your working space and your rolling pin with flour.
  • If the dough is too soft you can either add some more flour to the dough and knead again or you can put the dough in the fridge for 5 minutes and start working on it again.
  • If the dough is cracking add half a tablespoon of liquid oil to your dough, knead again shortly, it will not crack.

These cookies are not only delicious but also good looking. Make sure not to over cook. Hope you’ll try and enjoy.

Instructions
  1. Place all the ingredients except the flour and the cacao in a mixing bowl. Add the flour slowly. Knead until you obtain a non-stick, soft dough. When the dough is ready stop adding flour.
  2. Split the dough into two.
  3. To one of the pieces, add two tablespoons of cacao and knead again.
  4. To the other piece add two tablespoons of additional flour and knead again.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Either use a baking paper or oil the tray.
  6. Slightly flour the surface of your working place and your rolling pin. Repeat this if necessary.
  7. Roll out both doughs separately. Use the big heart cookie cutters first. Place the big heart-shaped doughs of both doughs on to your tray. They should not touch each other.
  8. While on the tray, use your smaller heart cutters and cut out smaller hearts. Place the small brown hearts into the whole of big vanilla color hearts and vice versa. Slights press the corners, try not to mix the colors.
  9. If your dough becomes too soft to work on, keep it in the fridge for 5-10 minutes and then start working again.
  10. Bake until the corners of the cookies just about to turn golden. Should take about 10.
